Comprehensive Sick Visits

One of the benefits of turning to a pediatrician for your child’s care is that we already know your child and their health because we also provide regular and routine checkups throughout their young lives.

The visit involves evaluating your child’s symptoms and medical history, determining the cause of the problem, prescribing the necessary treatment, providing general health advice, and discussing any other important details.

Your pediatrician will also ask about whether you have tried any other treatments or home remedies
.A physical examination will be done, which will be based on the reported symptoms and may include taking your child’s temperature, using a stethoscope to listen to their breathing and heartbeat, and checking your child’s neck or throat for signs of infection.

Based on all this information, your pediatrician should be able to provide a diagnosis and prescribe treatment.
Sometimes lab tests (CBC, COVID test, Flu test, RSV test, strep test, urinalysis, urine culture, monospot, pinworm smear, or stool exam) may also be obtained and run in our certified lab to confirm a diagnosis or to rule out certain conditions. We can arrange for X-rays or referral to a qualified specialist if needed.

At the end of a sick child visit, you will be:

  • Given prescriptions for medications, if required
  • Advised of dosage instructions for administering the medications
  • Given instructions to help relieve your child’s symptoms
  • Informed about possible warning signs and how to deal with them
  • Advised when to seek further medical care

Telehealth Services

We also offer telehealth services for convenience, allowing you to consult with our pediatricians from home. These are known as "Discussion only" visits. Some of the services that can be done by telehealth services include discussions on:

  • Chronic non-contagious visits: headaches, chronic abdominal pain, constipation or toileting concerns, toddler feeding/picky eating concerns, chronic asthma updates, menstrual issues.

  • Behavioral concerns and questions: new ADHD evaluations and medicine rechecks, mood concerns, or general behavioral coaching visits. We will strive to schedule these with your typical PMD.

Interested?

  • Call the phone nurse and she will determine if a Telemedicine visit would be appropriate. Let the nurse know if you would like longer than the 15 min default-length appointment duration.

  • Like when you are scheduled at the office, if the doctor is running behind, you must wait. Allow an hour of time just as you would in the office.

Helpful Information Before the Visit

  • Try to be in a room that is well lit, and with as little background noise as is feasible.

  • The parent is responsible for ensuring that the insurance policy covers Telehealth visits.
